This weeks message is about a brand I can’t help but tell everyone about. Nylon and polyester are wreaking havoc on our environment, releasing toxic gasses when produced, sending tiny fibres into our waterways when washed and impossible to break down after use. The activewear industry needs to catch up and fast.

One brand showing example to the world and starting to make waves in Australia and across the US market is Nagnata. Launching online in 2017 by a sister duo, the brand has collaborated with Woolmark and in 2020 has won the Westpac Emerging Fashion Designer Award.

Nagnata has developed inspiring ranges of organic cotton and merino activewear. Not only are they innovative in fabrication but the product is beautifully presented and has its own unique, recognisable style. Fast fashion brands have already started to rip off the distinct Nagata style, although showing how influential Nagnata has quickly become it is always sad to see brands doing the right thing being knocked off by brands not following the same ethical practices.

Not only has Nagnata been using ethical fibres, they are making steps to ensure all of their factories are ethical too, and working with artisan communities to create new organic woven scarves in India. This is both a great brand extension for their product offering but also shows the brands high level of creativity and drive to keep innovating through their success.

Nagnata is already available on many international ethical e-commerce sites such as Net-a-Porter (Net-Sustain), Well-made Clothes, Farfetch and Not Just a Label
